Why should I give through Giving101 / The White Envelope Project instead of to the charity directly?
Many people consider donating through The White Envelope Project a simpler and easier way to give. Donors like the option to support multiple causes at once. Further, many people appreciate the option to limit the personal information shared with the charities, give anonymously, or stay off of charity mailing or solicitation lists. Finally, some choose to give through us to simplify their tax records since they give to one organization that in turn spreads their donation out to multiple nonprofits.
What percent of funds donated through the White Envelope Project reach the intended charities?
A very small portion of each donation (roughly 4%) covers the direct costs we incur in processing the transaction. 100% of the remaining donation goes directly to programs at the designated charities. Giving101 covers the entire cost of producing, printing, and distributing the Catalog of Giving as well as maintaining the website.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Giving101, the charity behind The White Envelope Project, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax deductible. Your will receive a donation confirmation letter that serves as proof of the donation for the IRS.
Who should checks be made out to?
Regardless of catalog items purchased or charities supported, all checks should be made payable to “Giving101”. We reduce our costs and maximize funds going to the charity by distributing funds to the charities once each month.
Can my company match this donation?
As a 501(c)(3) public charity, many employers will match your contributions to Giving101. We will be happy to fill out any paperwork necessary to obtain the matching funds or follow up with your employer directly if you prefer.
Are the charities restricted in how they can use donations?
All donations through the Catalog of Giving program must be used for program-related expenses. No portion of the donation may cover administrative or fund-raising costs.
